It may sound little awkward, but there is a report about Gautam Gambhir and former skipper of Indian cricket team MS Dhoni are going to contest 2019 Lok Sabha elections on BJP’s ticket. According to a report, BJP is in talks with Dhoni and Gambhir to fight election from their respective states, Jharkhand and Delhi. The saffron party is likely to replace MP Meenakshi Lekhi with Gambhir, a report in The Sunday Guardian claims. The report further claims that the party insiders aren’t happy with Lekhi’s work and want to rope in Gambhir as their star campaigner.
A senior BJP leader quoted in The Sunday Guardian, “Reports from the ground about Meenakshi Lekhi are not good. People from her constituency are not happy with her work and the party leadership has decided that she will not be repeated this time as a candidate from New Delhi. Gautam Gambhir, in most likelihood, will be the party’s candidate from the same seat. He has wide acceptability and is known for his social work. He is a Delhiite and will do his best for the people of Delhi.”
The party is also trying to convince Dhoni to contest 2019 elections. Hmm! well if this happened and the two top cricketers contest the election, their name will be added in the list of cricketer who tried their hands in politics.
